Though today’s modern world is full of adventure and excitement, sometimes it’s nice to take a step back in time. There are probably only a few notable locations that give a genuine sense of “old-time charm,” but when discovered, these places quickly become timeless favorites.
Sitting along the corner of Henry St. in Brooklyn, New York is the Brooklyn Farmacy & Soda Fountain. Of course, a restaurant like this needs almost no introduction, because the picturesque 1950’s style is radiating from the street. Once inside, it feels like a completely different world. Servers are dressed in crisp and classic garb while they whip up milkshakes and other frosty favorites. Each corner of the room is draped with authentic-looking 1950’s memorabilia to top it off.
Dessert is a key element here, as well. In fact, it’s almost impossible miss the patrons Instagramming their sweet treats. The Elvis, being one of the most popular of the restaurant, has exactly what one would expect. Well, for the most part anyway. The sundae starts off with a few scoops of banana chocolate ice cream. Then, hot fudge and peanut butter are drizzled over the top. Of course, they throw some walnuts on top too, because that seems to be a sundae standard. Then it gets fun. Bits of bacon are peppered all over the dessert and to finish it off, they place a nice, juicy pickle alongside it. Elvis loved all of these things, so why not make an entire dessert out of it? It sounds bizarre, but it proved to contain a really interesting span of tastes. Too weird? Not to worry. The Soda Fountain has several food and dessert options, ranging from classic to completely unique.
Brooklyn Farmacy & Soda Fountain doesn’t just serve as a charmingly antiquated restaurant though. There are also several interesting events held there. Some nights consist of musical jams filled with different artists, others consist of uncommon programs like “Friday Night with my Baby.” Either way, there’s always something going on. This place is obviously very high on my recommendation list and I urge everyone to at least check it out. Here’s the website! http://www.brooklynfarmacyandsodafountain.com/
