As a crunchy granola Golden Girl with a love for all things nonprofit, I have an intense and continuous desire to do something good for the world. However, from the mind of a young post-grad, the feat of creating something powerful and with meaning can be overwhelming. Thinking back a few months, I didn’t know exactly what I could offer or what I hoped to accomplish. I was brainstorming 5-10 new ideas every week, and none were seeming to stick. It was a daily struggle.
One day, as I was walking through the park during my lunch break, I came upon the most magnificent cluster of flowers. I whipped out my iPhone 7+ like I usually do, and started snapping as many aesthetically pleasing shots as possible. I would later add these photos to the countless others that I had taken throughout my travels. Then it dawned on me: Why not put these photos to good use? I immediately envisioned a product that would allow me to raise awareness and support meaningful, charitable causes, while doing something I enjoy. That day, The Kind Carrier was born.
After a few months of discipline and determination, this big idea came to life. While it’s all still very much a work-in-progress, this passion project is just about ready to spread its wings and soar into the wind as a specialized greeting card company that supports various charities. At this very moment, there are three made-to-order greeting card sets ready to sell. Here’s a little bit about them:
- “Freedom” – As the first official Kind Carrier set release, 100% of profits for this One World Trade Center set will benefit Tuesday’s Children, a nonprofit organization forged in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. In light of recent attacks and the consistent threat of terrorism in this world, we encourage supporting this organization as it is searches for pockets of hope and methods of healing.
- “Trick or Treat” – This Halloween-themed greeting card set will will benefit Best Friends Animal Society, a nonprofit organization aiming to bring about a time when there are “No More Homeless Pets”, along with creating a better world through kindness to animals. Every Halloween, black cats are threatened, neglected, and abused for their “bad luck” stigma. Supporting this organization will give the extra helping hands it needs to protect our furry friends, as 30% of all profits will go to this organization.
- “Autumn In Vermont” – This fall photo set will benefit The Sierra Club, the nation’s largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization — with three million members and supporters. With climate change constantly threatening our very existence, The Sierra Club aims to fight for environmental justice and action. Similar to the above greeting card set, 30% of all profits will benefit this organization.
This new business venture has thus far yielded great personal rewards. There’s nothing more exciting than bootstrapping an idea and building it from the ground up. Started as a one-man band, I later acquired the help of my best friend, making business decisions a little less daunting and stressful. I’m very much looking forward to this new journey and the impact it may potentially make.
